KOPISOE MUARA KARANG

March 27, 2019     best kopi susu jakarta, food blog jakarta, indonesian food blogger, jakarta food blog, kopi soe, kopi soe muara karang, kopi soe regal, kopi susu jakarta, susu regal     No comments

This has got to be one of the MOST happening drinks at the very moment! Ever since I posted this on my Instagram I have been getting at least 40-50 tags every single day *brb making invoice for Kopi Soe* - they need to start cutting me A CHECK, lol just kidding!

Kopi Soe just opened their newest and probably the one with proper seating area in Muara Karang (precisely next to Delapan Gram cafe), the cafe's not the most spacious but inside there are a few tables for you to chill for a bit. My main purpose coming here is to check out & testify their highly raved Roegal for myself. In case you wonder, Roegal is basically fresh milk with rhum syrup and regal biscuits, so simple.
The interior is neat, simple and comfortable, nothing fancy and extraordinary, at the moment Kopi Soe focuses in serving coffee, but those who are for non-coffee drinkers, they also have selections like chocolate & matcha, and soya milk for non-dairy consumers! I opted for these followings on my visit Kopi Soe Goela Merah (18k), Es Coklat Rhum (25k), Roegal (23k), Yuzu SoeSoe(23k).
Kopi Susu Goela Merah (bottom right - IDR 18k), Es Coklat Rhum (bottom left - IDR 25k) if you like kopi susu/milk coffee that's stronger on coffee you might like this one, but if you ask me to name my ultimate favorite, nothing beats Tuku so far, I actually prefer their Kopi Susu Goela Merah with a hint of rhum for extra fragrance and this hint of flavor! If you want the stronger kick to your coffee they also have the 'Double Espresso' version! I have ZERO complaint and negative thing to say about their Es Coklat Rhum, it's absolutely delicious, sweet, doesn't taste like cheap ass chocolate drink, I think it's the best, easy & affordable chocolate drinks in town at the moment, a MUST TRY!

Anyway talk about the rhum, they claim that they use rhum syrup which is free from alcohol, but I can't guarantee that it's HALAL tho.
Roegal - IDR 23k
I honestly didn't expect much from this because if you ask me, I am not the biggest fan of Regal biscuits, well I mean I like it but not crazy about it! BUUUT somehow they manage to measure the right portion of each ingredient, hence this good satisfying drink! The rhum and milk blends so well that it's almost like drinking this pudding sauce (fla). I think a lot of people agree with my "judgement" about this drink and I enjoy watching your story tags, thank you so much!

I ask the staff there and they said 32 grams of Regal biscuits for each serving, I kinda ask for more (with extra charge)
Yuzu Soesoe - IDR 23k
I also enjoy their Yuzu drink because when you mix the Yuzu syrup and the milk, they blend into this beverage with beautiful sweetness, a hint of sour from the Yuzu, fragrant and absolutely fresh, the slightly more unique product that you don't see often at kopi susu vendor stall, but one that's absolutely worth trying!
Trend comes and goes, but somehow I believe this will remain, it's a simple satisfying thrist quenchers for the day, for times when you just want to slurp something when you're so busy with your chores. Wish them luck!

BRIEF THOUGHTS OF: KOPI KENANGAN

September 14, 2017     best kopi susu jakarta, es kopi susu jakarta, indonesian food blogger, jakarta food blog, kopi kenangan, kopi kenangan jakarta, kopi susu, kopi susu jakarta     No comments

I think it was after this blog post that I haven't paid that much attention to the rapidly growing Kopi Susu trend in Jakarta and boy I might need to update the list now, this entry will be a brief thought about this newcomer called Kopi Kenangan which I just had earlier today. I found it interesting because they claim to be using the 8-years Arabica Aged Coffee (which got me like 'hmm...'). They have a little shop in Menara Standard Chartered but because I know that normally Kopi Susu shop will be incredibly petite and almost impossible for you to sit around so I really recommend to just have it Gojek-ed to your place.

The product? They only have two menus here which basically the same product: Es Kopi Susu Kenangan Mantan (normal) and the "Less Sugar" version, both priced at IDR 18k. Honestly just go straight to the "Less Sugar" version of this Es Kopi Susu Kenangan Mantan as I've tried both and I feel like the normal one was way too sweet for my liking and they're using palm sugar as the sweetener. I was honestly fond of their Es Kopi Susu, I found it to be creamy while not being overly milky and most importantly, as an avid fan of coffee, the character of the coffee is still pretty dominant. It has this fresh smooth aftertaste and I didn't get this burnt beans character that I found in Tuku, and oh FYI it doesn't taste like Tuku.

Anyway, your call to decide which one in town is your favorite, but this new comer is not disappointing. Approved? Yes!

ANIMO BAKERY CIPETE

May 18, 2017     animo bakery, animo bread culture, animo cipete, best kopi susu jakarta, es kopi susu animo, food blog jakarta, indonesian food blogger, jakarta food blog, kopi susu jakarta     No comments

Just got back from a brief coffee date at ANIMO Bread Culture Cipete with my best friends and I don't know, I just want to do a short entry about this (and told ya lately I've been fond of doing short entries). It was raining very hard today for a couple of hours and I freaking took Gojek to Cipete because it's so far from my home, and not to mention the sick traffic, spent around 1,5 hours on the road can you imagine just how worsen the traffic in Jakarta has been.

I have talked about The best Kopi Susu in Jakarta and Animo is currently my favorite among the five that I mentioned on the list but the thing is I always get it delivered to me by Gojek and so many of you actually told me that they also bake fresh pastries #temptation.
Animo is actually very petite and I am not sure whether because it rained earlier today and the fact that it was pretty quiet earlier today but it kinda built up the homey ambiance that I like, just so calm and peaceful with blend of lingering scent of coffee and freshly baked pastries because the kitchen and bake-space is located in the same joint as the bakery and cafe. Major love.
Upon entrance you should see the pastries display and to be completely frank they all look so fly and tempting! I was feeling something classic so I went for their Pain au Chocolate (IDR 15k) and Donat Empuk Gemas (IDR 6k) and save the Kouign Annan, Butter and Almond Croissant (and maybe breads) for the upcoming visit! The pastries here are very affordable and of course it's a must that you pair the pastries here with their coffee, especially their famous Es Kopi Susu Animo! Other coffee options range from Espresso, Cappuccino, Ristretto, Macchiato, Latte with price ranging from IDR 10k-IDR 22k. Heard good things about their Es Coklat Animo but I didn't have one on this visit.

There were also more cakes around the cashier area and even though it's suggested that you do the self-service order as they provide trays and tongs, but at quite times like my visit, you can also ask for a little help (they actually offered me the help).
Look at that form, can already imagine the flakiness!
Es Kopi Susu Animo (IDR 17k), Pain Au Chocolat (IDR 15k), Donat Empuk Gemas (IDR 6k)
No complaint about their Es Kopi Susu Animo, still is really good and creamy, and for the quality that I got and the little price that I am paying, their Pain Au Chocolate was pretty good! It was flaky, puffy and moist with medium chocolate condiment and their fresh donut was beautifully fried without being oily but indeed fragrant, fresh, moist, fluffy and buttery! LOVE!
The thing is, I didn't have any expectation before arriving yet I ended up feeling pretty satisfied with my experience: the vibe, the pastries, the coffee and the price that I paid for, surely WORTH IT. Thank you for contributing to such an exciting afternoon Animo! If only I live in the South (a dream of mine which is going to be realized soon *fingers crossed).

THE BEST KOPI SUSU IN JAKARTA

May 15, 2017     animo bread culture, best kopi susu jakarta, dibawah tangga gandaria, es kopi susu tetangga, kopi susu jakarta, kopi susu tuku, kopi tuku cipete, sagaleh     No comments

This entry is HIGHLY REQUESTED and I've actually been wanting to write about this since it's currently one of the biggest trend happening in the F&B biz at the moment: KOPI SUSU!

Seems like more and more coffee shops are now joining the crowd and create their own version of Kopi Susu or milk-coffee, technically espresso based creations like cappuccino, latte or piccolo is also milk and coffee but Kopi Susu is the more local and traditional form of it, the most humble form that you can find in "warung-warung" (small stall) would be black coffee with condensed milk, but these following coffee shops add in their creativity and their take to create the more modern version of one, and without further ado here are my TOP 5 favorite kopi susu in Jakarta at the moment! Going to keep this list at 5 but keep in mind that this is not a rank list, and in the future the might be (or not) ones that could perform better than the followings and this list is purely based on my opinion.

What differentiates one antoher? Of course the signature blend and the addition of certain ingredient.

1. KOPI TUKU - ES KOPI SUSU TETANGGA (IDR 18k)
Jalan Cipete Raya No. 7 (across Toodz House)
Cilandak, Cipete Selatan
Jakarta Selatan 12410
Opening hours: 8 AM-10 PM

I just gotta give it to Kopi Tuku as the first honorable mention because it was really them that started it all in a way. Yes, Kopi Susu has been around since decades ago, but it was not until their Es Kopi Susu Tetangga went viral via social media and mouth-to-mouth that's making this trend-setter coffee as one of the best selling coffees at the moment.

I like it because it's sweet (they use palm sugar for the sweetener), creamy and altogether well-balanced flavor and after-taste, and for only IDR 18k sure is affordable universal thirst quencher and perfect for those who fancy coffee but don't want one that's acid and strong! Anyway they just recently opened their latest outlet in Pasar Santa, congrats on that!
2. ANIMO BREAD CULTURE - ES KOPI SUSU ANIMO (IDR 17k)
Jalan Cipete 1 No. 6A
Cilandak, Cipete
Jakarta Selatan 12410
Opening hours: 7 AM-7 PM

For some reasons, I feel like Animo is currently my most favorite out of the 5 you're seeing here. The notes and overall taste is very familiar to Tuku's to be honest only theirs a little creamier and better balanced in terms of sweetness with this sweet caramel aftertaste that I like (esepcially reaching the end of the glass), while Tuku is a bit more to the 'coffee' side. You can check out their outlet in Cipete where you can also munch on their freshly baked pastries, which I never had before actually but will sure let you know once I do.

The selling price per glass is IDR 1k cheaper than Tuku at IDR 17k.
3. SAGALEH - ES KOPI SUSU SAGALEH (IDR 15k)
Jalan Petogogan I/V No. 2
Gandaria Utara, Kebayoran Baru
Jakarta Selatan 12140
Opening hours: 9 AM-sold out hours

Sagaleh is the Padang word for 'segelas' (one glass) and their Es Kopi Susu Sagaleh is the cheapest out of the five you're seeing here, also the richest and boldest when it comes to the coffee. While the other four keep it to the milkier side, Sagaleh comes with this rich coffee that blends really well with the milk, the overall flavor and after-taste give me this hint of dark caramel and bitterness at the end that I find refreshing. I actually have a lot of friends who root for Sagaleh because again it's all about preference, some might like the milkier and some might like the 'coffee-er'.
4. SANA COFFEE - ES KOPI SUSU SANA BIASA (IDR 20k)
Jalan Panglima Polim V No. 38
Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan 12160
Opening hours: 9 AM-9 PM (may vary depends on the sold out hour)

Sana Coffee's "Es Kopi Susu Sana Biasa" reminds me of Tuku's version, only theirs a little sweeter and creamier, and at the very moment, the price point is the most expensive out of the 5 you're seeing here at IDR 20k BUT when it comes to variety, it's also the largest as they also offer healthy options like Es Kopi Susu Sana Almond/Soy/Low Fat so if you are one of the strict weight watchers or even vegan, Sana is currently the only one that caters your demand! Anyway I am loving their small coffee shop in Panglima Polim that happens to be in the same location where the owner's SANA STUDIO is, so if you happen to be in Panglima Polim and fancy chilling out a bit, you can defo go to their outlet.
5. DIBAWAH TANGGA - ES KOPI SUSU KAMPUNG (IDR 19k)
Gandaria City
Jl. Sultan Iskandar Muda
Kebayoran Lama, Jakarta Selatan 12240
Opening Hours: 10 AM - 10 PM (weekdays)

INSTAGRAM
From the milkier side this one was the most different compared to TUKU, SANA or ANIMO and I actually found it hard to explain this one. Overall I find their coffee to be beautifully sweet and creamy with this richer palm sugar character infused and even though I believe they don't include one, but the end of the note I kinda experienced this very little hint of gingery (might be from the palm sugar), it's seriously hard to explain but it's different.

KOPI SAGALEH: KOPI TUKU'S STRONGEST COMPETITOR?!

April 28, 2017     eatandtreats, food blog indonesia, indonesian food blogger, jakarta food blog, kopi sagaleh, kopi susu jakarta, kopi susu tetangga, kopi tuku     No comments

First knew about this when Andra Alodita tagged me on her Instagram Stories saying this coffee was crazy good and I've been wanting to try this ever since, but unfortunately (but fortunately) constantly being sold out at random hours every day (read: good business), and FINALLY just earlier today I got the chance to try this and weirdly excited about it!

I've been hearing a lot of good buzz about SAGALEH and when I uploaded this on my Instagram Stories earlier actually a lot of you told me that this tastes better than TUKU but in my personal opinion it's pretty challenging to decide which one is my favorite and I am not obligated to. I personally enjoy both and I think TUKU makes very good Kopi Susu and we can't disregard that even though technically Kopi Susu has been around for a long time, but it was them and the social media that really lived up the hype back and they really open ways to the other coffee shops who are giving shots of this particular product, and modernized it in a way that we all enjoy.
I found SAGALEH's coffee to be a little richer and bold with this bittersweet caramel aftertaste that's altogether beautifully sweet and interesting as well! It was genuinely good and price wise: cheaper (if not cheapest) around their peers at IDR 15k/glass! They have a small outlet located at Jalan Petogogan but to be completely frank I would recommend you guys to just have it delivered to you via Gojek or whatever you normally use, but do check their Instagram because they always let everyone knows if they're sold out that day.

Quick update from my friend, Aline: apparently they use 8 different local coffee to create their signature blend, no wonder why their coffee is a bit stronger.

This Kopi Susu trend is currently one of the most happening in town and somehow as a coffee addict I found this trend very interesting because more and more shops now come with their own version of Kopi Susu and each has their own take and it goes back to one's palate to decide which one is their favorite.
