DEVON CAFE JAKARTA

April 12, 2018     devon cafe eatandtreats, devon cafe jakarta, devon jakarta, devon senayan city, food blogger jakarta, indonesian food blogger, new cafe jakarta     No comments

The highly anticipated Devon Cafe from Sydney is NOW OPENING in Jakarta, I have been waiting for this to open for quite some time and it finally did!!! Went to have a quick lunch here earlier today, most likely to feed my curiosity on whether their Jakarta branch would perform as good as their Sydney one!

Devon Cafe Jakarta is located at Senayan City LG fl, next to the newly opened Starbucks.
Their Senayan City outlet is not the most spacious, but pretty homey to be honest with minimalist semi-industrial vibe and earthy tones. The whole cafe could accommodate around 30 people with extra outdoor seatings for guests who fancy (or smoking guests), and not to let you down, but if you're planning to find their famous Truffle Soft Serve with Fries then unfortunately they're currently not available as when I asked the server there, the ice cream machine has not yet been installed, maybe give it 3-4 weeks as this blog post is written.

INTERIOR TOUR
Most of the menus here are pretty similar to their Sydney origin, so expect to find their signature (and best selling) Breakfast with The Sakuma's (Miso grilled King Salmon), Yakuza Burger (Grilled Teriyaki chicken with Mozarella Katsu) for a pretty cheaper price as adjusted to Jakarta's standard spending, if Breakfast with The Sakuma's is around $26 in Sydney (the last time I ate was around the value), then it's IDR 180k here for the same portion and quality. Anyway I chose to skip the Breakfast with The Sakuma's as I always order that everytime I go to Devon Sydney and I wanted something different earlier today! They added some local inspired menus like Bakmie Truffle (IDR 85k), Nasi Goreng Gila (IDR 95k) and Char Kway Teow (IDR 120k) and I was tempted to try one.

They also have various Salad and Bowls, Pasta, Rice, Main Plates, Small Plates, Brunch menus to Kids Meals and Desserts with price ranging from IDR 55k-IDR 180k, pretty reasonable for recent pricing and not to mention foreign franchise.
Iced White with Bonsoy (IDR 46k), IDR 10k extra charge for Bonsoy substitute.
Instant plus point: the fact that they provide Bonsoy here! Doesn't get anymore Aussie for sure LOL. The White was pretty bold and as I was guessing around before actually asking directly to one of the peeps there, the coffee really had this Common Grounds feel to it, and yes CG actually supports the coffee here but with the OG Devon Sydney blend.
Surry Hills Iced Tea - IDR 35k
Berry iced tea with lemon, pretty refreshing for the day.
BRUNCH
Devon Benedict (IDR 135k with Smoked Trout)
My friend who went here earlier recommended me their Devon Benedict! Guests are given the options of Bacon (IDR 110k) or Smoked Trout (IDR 135k), I opted for the Smoked Trout! FYI for those who're (if you read whore you're duuuurtyyy?) wondering, Salmon and Trout do look similar, but they are different in flavor and texture, Trout is somehow milder for me compared to Salmon. Anyway, diggin the presentation of the Devon Benedict as Charcoal Bun is used for the base, followed by beautifully poached egg, sauteed spinach, squid ink Hollandaise, black Tobiko and Salmon caviar!
Everything was spot on here! The brioche charcoal bun was fluffy and moist, everything was seasoned nicely without overpowering one another, the Squid Ink Hollandaise was one of the highlight of this dish, and altogether what I love the most is bringing the intermezzo of having this in Australia, there's something about the presentation and flavor that brings "Australia" to me, and that's a good sign. Recommended.
Croissant St. Denis - IDR 140k
To be completely frank with you I ordered this because I saw "Ghetto Style Omelette" on the description menu and bitch yes. Initially thought the price tag on this one might be a bit hefty for IDR 140k considering what you're getting (and even though they use crab here), but really after finishing this, I feel like the IDR 140k was worth spending! The croissant was beautiful: flaky, moist, buttery, airy, and the Ghetto Omelette was really far from being Ghetto (lol!), it was LEGIT! The crab meat was generous, but I think it was really the Bisque Beurre Blanc, this classic seafood sauce was a beautiful pair to the crab and the other condiments like caviar, salmon caviar and more! The omelette was beautifully thick and creamy too. What an elevated classic "Pastry and Omelette" brunch menu!
Truffle Bakmie - IDR 85k
From their local's classic menu, tempted to try this one well simply because my two favorite ingredients are in one frame: noodle and truffle. Short to say, despite the uber tempting appearance, this didn't live up to my standard and need that work on mainly the seasoning.
...however, the soup, even though was salty but good, plus the generous truffle oil drizzle makes this so aromatic.
I had an enjoyable lunch to be honest with you! The food brought good intermezzo of Sydney memories and flavors to my mind, food was executed beautifully on presentation, concept and flavor! Really nothing to dislike and I would happily recommend this to you guys!

NUTRIVE BENECOL GERAKAN JANTUNG SEHAT!

December 06, 2017     eatandtreats, food blogger jakarta, indonesia tangkal kolesterol, indonesian food blogger, jakarta food blog, nutrive benecol blog, nutrive benecol by kalbe     No comments

I went to Nutrive Benecol's event a while ago at The Hall - Senayan City, and as you guys probably know, Nutrive Benecol is one of the leading products by Kalbe that's targeted to people who has cholesterol and to those who want to maintain the level of cholesterol in their system! The older I am now the more I realize how cholestrol is not something to underestimate, it's the prime trigger of the heart disease and cancer, which last year alone caused the death of 2,6 million people! 29% of the 2,6 million comes from southeast Asia, with Europe being the largest victims.

For those who wonder about cholesterol, anybody has the equal chance of getting, but different people has different take on it, short to say the cholesterol value depends and varies on what we eat, our lifestyle and supporting factor such as: age, do NOTE this: just because you do tons of exercise, sports and watch what you eat doesn't mean that you're free of one. Keep reading to relate to this because I have an interesting story to share.
What I love the most about this Nutrive Benecol event, aside from sharing knowledge about cholesterol and such, is how you can check your cholesterol ON THE SPOT! Team of doctors and nutritionist were there to cater us with details on general health and cholesterol maintenance suggestion, and of course, yours truly had his checked up too!
Cooking demo featuring Nutrive Benecol products!
What's your favorite Nutrive Benecol products? Mine's their go-to bottle packaging that I can easily grab everywhere! They also have the cereal packaging that you can serve for breakfast!
I can't believe that the sub-info of cholesterol is WIDE, when I say wide I mean I just knew that blood also contains fat and cholesterol is also IN YOUR BLOOD! Might be basic info for some, but when you're aware of that you'll understand how the basic info can help you big time, and the whole I was just eating and eating, when I feel like eating too much I kinda hold my back a bit and that's pretty much it, I have no idea anything else deeper than that really, and that's probably why I recommend you guys coming to events like this.

Our lifestyle also takes big part of the cholesterol, if you never hear about "SEDENTARY" lifestyle, that's literally a word to describe my daily life at the moment, where on a daily basis, I don't really move or do a lot of sports, and in contrary to that I spend most of my time sitting down, working stuff on my laptop (writing, editing, making plans and journals) and yes, when you don't do a lot of walking/sports it can affect the amount of cholesterol carried in your blood, and that could lead to coronary heart disease (from the blockage of the veins which is also known as 'Aterosklerosis').

I was honestly a bit nervous when it's my turn to do the check up as two of my friends who let's say has the ideal body and as far as I concern do a lot of sports SURPASSED the cholesterol level standard, so I kinda think that I must got one as I don't really do sports (the only sports that I do is jaw sports from chewing and walking at the malls), BUT it's almost like magic when the nurse told me I was far from having cholesterol as my score was about 150 from 200! So tacky to think of it as magic, but I was kinda glad but in the same time freaking wonder WHY COULD I????? Was I completely saved? Not really! Apparently my SEDENTARY lifestyle required me to eat less fried stuff and do more sports!
Okay, I know I am partnering with them, but I NEVER titsuck and will always provide you guys with my real opinion towards it...AND AT THE MOMENT it's proven that Nutrive Benecol can help you maintain the cholesterol in your system, just because I had none right now doesn't mean that I am totally safe and can't catch one in the future, maybe the idea is that we should never feel to safe therefore we always being remembered to maintain out health.

After the high calorie and cholesterol food, two bottles of Nutrive Benecol per day to balance! If you have them regularly twice per day, in 1/2 weeks you can lose your LDL by 10-15%
For the milk drinks, it's available in some variants: lychee, strawberry and blackcurrant! My favorite has got to be the blackcurrant for sure!

ALTITUDE GRILL JAKARTA - THE PLAZA

November 20, 2017     altitude grill, altitude jakarta, altitude the plaza, best steakhouse jakarta, eatandtreats altitude, food blog indonesia, food blogger jakarta, jakarta food blog     No comments

Confirming the floating news, after the 4-year contract with Luke Mangan ends, what was Salt Grill is now replaced with a new concept from the group: ALTITUDE GRILL, a classic Western steakhouse that's ready to grill and you some high quality proteins! Was invited to the pre-opening lunch and here I am briefly sharing my thoughts of this restaurant for you.
Opening this post with a view of Jakarta after the rain, not going to show you much of the interior as I don't think the interior has entirely finished, will update this post on my future visits (I believe there will be), but they do have 110 seating capacities and the vibe is way more casual than Salt Grill (if you've been there before).
Apple Mango and Prawn Cocktail - IDR 160k
The serving idea of this prawn cocktail is to mix everything together for the harmony of flavor and texture. It's a light and refreshing appetizer to warm up your palate, the prawn was fresh, and the mango's there to give a tiny bit of additional sweet and tangy, unfortunately to be honest for IDR 160k a tad too expensive.
Scallop Filled Squid Rings (non halal) - IDR 280k (three pieces)
This was one of my personal favs from the Appetizer menu that day for its simplicity, all about fresh ingredient, light flavor but altogether an exciting harmony! The squid was tender and beautifully firm, placed surrounding the scallop like a ring! The scallop was also very fresh then lightly seasoned but it was the raspberry bacon jam, parsley shallot plush and crispy Pancetta that's really enhancing the overall flavor.
Triple Cooked Wagyu Ox-Tongue - IDR 180k
Now this was the star from the Appetizer section, this was too good they actually offered and gave us three portions! The tongue was so perfectly cooked that it's super tender, probably zero calorie spent slicing it (it was THAT tender and juicy), love the char-grilled aroma and the unexpectedly delicious Creamed Hazelnut Dukkah!
Oven Baked Salted Egg Hollandaise Black Cod - IDR 320k
Perfectly cooked black cod with Salted Egg Hollandaise dressing that's thick and creamy but without the uber rich salted egg flavor on the sauce which I kinda like because I think when it comes to a protein as premium and fresh like Black Cod I would have opt to sample the natural flavor of the fish more than the sauce.
For the star of the menu aka meats, they serve mainly high quality premium meat with awesome marbling, but if you fancy dry aged meat, they do have some but it's not their specialties (I mean if you really want dry aged meat just go to AB Steak they have more options for this particular range).

Bistecca a la Altitudine (1 KG) - IDR 260k/100 gr
Minimum order 500 gr!
The cut is Sher Wagyu MBS 8/9 T Bone and Chef Gary sliced the chunky fresh-from-the-grill meat before our eyes effortlessly, proving just how tender and juicy this was! Do not go further than 'medium' for the best temperature, unless you want to waste a beautiful protein like this!
You can pair the glorious steak with various desired side dishes like Truffle Fries (IDR 95k), Confit Shallots (IDR 80k), Whipped Potatoes (IDR 90k), Buttered Spiced Corn and Crisp (IDR 80k), and Buttered Broccoli Gratin (IDR 80k)
Texture close up! OMG the fat part was the most amazing!!!
Picanha - IDR 225k/100 gr
The T bone steak was great and this was beautiful on its own way! The Picanha which kinda reminds me of Flat Iron steak had beautiful marbling, also beautifully cooked too (AGAIN DON'T GO MORE THAN MEDIUM!), tender, juicy, omg the description is boring AF short to say this was DELICIOUS!
Steak Sampler - IDR 1,1 mil
Honestly this is a very good deal if you're planning to check out some of the stars/best selling menus here! The Meat Sampler consist of 5 options: Wagyu Ox-tongue, Tenderloin, Picanha, Rib Eye and Skirt. Was too full to indulge on this one but tasted the Tongue and Picanha so I believe it's going to be legit!
Dessert Buffet - IDR 150k
One of the most fascinating things about Altitude Grill is surely their dessert buffet, and I honestly didn't expect that they would come up with this concept for their dessert! For IDR 150k you'll be getting a lot of options from mini cakes, tartlets, pannacota, sliced cakes, chocolate fondue to ice creams! The Coconut Pannacota, coconut sponge cake something (forgot the actual name), and chocolate ice cream were some of my favorites!

Not sure if you can come just to have their desserts but I'll go and ask them!

If you ask me to name my favorite steakhouses in Jakarta, and as I just thought about it in 30 seconds, I can't name a lot, probably under 5 that really stands out, and the arrival of Altitude Grill just adds in more options to the steakhouses in Jakarta! Indeed targeted for A class customers but still there's a sense of humbleness about this restaurant that I like.
